You see what I mean, they change (expensive) parts for nothing, only for the reason they THINK it could be the suspicious device.

Your problem is really strange because your car suddenly stopps. From this distance its hard to make a reliable diagnosis. Do you have a protocol of the fault recorder? I hope you know what I mena, I am not sure if this is the right translation for "Fehlerspeicher". What I mean is that you can connect your car with a computer. Then you can see all the faults which occured during the last time. Maybe you can find an indication...

Can you repair your car on your own? I guess not... ;))

With the marten, I think it is just a possibility you should think about. Just take a look in the engine compartment and watch out for any traces of this cute but annoying animal.
Your error which occurs as a random failure might be a short circuit...you should have a look at the fault recorder which I told you about at the beginning. Then you should post it here or send me to my email...

Spaß an meinem Cabrio hab ich jeden Tag, auch dann wenn ich es nur bei Regen in der Garage bewundern kann, einfach ein traumhaft schönes Auto wie ich finde...einer der letzten gelungenen BMWs.

Sorgen mache ich mir nur ums Verdeck bzw. den Antrieb...wenn da mal was abschmatzt bin ich locker nen Monat umsonst bzw. nur fürs Auto arbeiten gegangen. Ich weiss echt nicht ob mir dass die Freunde am offen fahren wert sein sollte?!

Alles andere reparieren ich selber, vom Motor und Getriebe mal abgesehen. Auch die Elektrik ist als Simensianer kein Problem, lediglich das Verdeck bereitet mir schlaflose Nächte auch wenn es momentan seinen Dienst anstandslos verrichtet.

Da stimme ich dir voll und ganz zu, wenn es richtig kompliziert wird kommst du mit den Büchern sicherlich nicht weit...

Ich habe keines von den Büchern weil ich die nicht brauche, zumindest bisher noch nicht gebraucht habe. Tritt aber mal der Fall ein fahre ich zum und der druckt mir dann das aus was ich benötigen sollte.

Genau diese beiden Bücher meine ich...danke für den richtigen Hinweis. Ich finde sie sind weit mehr als Bastelanleitungen, klar nicht so ausführlich wie ein richtiges Werkstatthandbuch, aber was erwartest du für 10-20 €?

Für den Normalanwender jedenfalls vollkommen ausreichend!

I dont think it is the battery, since BMW Mobile Service even tried external battery to start the car. Plus, if the starter is working (ie. rotating the engine) -> the wiring from battery is ok. Otherwise it would not be electricity for feed the starter

I called BMW CustomerCare in Munich already. They asked me to write the letter, so did I. The garage might be not good. If somebody knows a good one around/in Zurich, I would appreciate this info

Hmm, I dont know either if we are allowed to speak english instead of german, but most people in Germany will unterstand english instead of french people for example, but thats off topic.

Its easier for me to understand your problem when you write english. Your german is quite good, but explaining a difficult problem in a difficult language likes german causes that people might misunderstand you.

With the battery cable I meant a loose/bad connection, not a disconnected cable. But I guess you have checked this already.

Maybe a fuel soaked spark plug, or the spark plug itself? Can you ensure that your fuel pump is working when u start up your engine? Can u make a picture of your spark plugs, so that we can make sure they are fine?!

Maybe a marten visited your car? When did this problem occur the first time?

Damals für den E30 hatte ich das Buch "Jetzt mach ich es selbst" oder so ähnlich...gibt im Grunde zwei Autoren. Der eine ist glaube ich H. Ätzold (oder so ähnlich) und der andere fällt mir gerade leider nicht ein.

Beide sind was so grundlegende Dinge wie Querlenker angeht ähnlich gut, allerdings kommt in beiden Büchern Dinge wie die Elektroniksparte zu kurz, klar bei den heutigen Autos bräuchte man dafür wahrscheinlich ne ganze Bücherwand...zum Glück bin ich Elektroniker

Einfach mal bei eBay gucken, ansonsten findest sicherlich auch hier im Forum den ein oder anderen Post dazu. Zur Not bei Google "Fachlektüre E46" eintippen...

Aber dann direkt auf beiden Seiten??? Hmm, naja ich werd am Wochenende mal zu BMW fahren und mir die KLippse besorgen, dann die Pappen runternehmen und gucken was mich da erwartet...vielen Dank schonmal.

I guess that you speak english better than german, thats why I try to answer in english. Unfortunately I am not sure about your problem, but maybe you should change the garage.

The problem of the official bmw garage (your bmw dealer maybe) is that they always think what the problem could be. But thinking is NOT knowing, you see what I mean? They want to earn money, thats why they change parts which COULD cause the malfunction.

Your Battery is okay? Maybe a loose connection from the Battery?

Hope you can find a solution...let us know!

....und wenn das dann nicht reicht kauf dir ne Fachlektüre. Da ists nochmal ausführlich, sogar mit Bildern beschrieben. Auch andere Probleme wirst du dadurch einfach lösen können.

Klar könnten wir dir hier sagen was für Schrauben du lösen musst, dass würde dir aber unter Umständen nicht viel helfen wenn du unterm Auto liegst. Also, entweder wen machen lassen der es kann, oder Buch besorgen wenn du es selber machen willst.

Was ist denn undicht, der Zylinder oder die Leitung?

Ich befürchte dass eine Abdichtung an der Leitung aufgrund der hohen Drücke nicht halten wird...ansonsten besorg dir gutes Isolierband und wickel es drum, ein Versuch wäre mir dass allemale wert. Musst dann aber wieder Öl auffüllen was du nur bei BMW bekommst.

Die Frage die sich mir stellt, warum wurde das System undicht? Verschleiss? Kommt dies öfter vor? Habe nämlich schon mal in einem Forum jemand gesehen der genau dein Problem hatte, vielleicht warst du es ja?!

Ich habe auch Angst um meinen Verdeckantrieb, genauer gesagt Angst vor den hohen Reparaturkosten. Alles andere am Auto mach ich ohne Probleme selber, aber ans Verdeck traue ich mich bisher noch nicht so wirklich ran.

Die linke Seite kann man einzeln tauschen, rechts geht aber wohl nur komplett. Ich befürchte da musst du wohl in den sauren Apfel beissen.
